The |cortex| of the |kidney| is the outer section which covers the internal |medulla|. The |cortex| is visible near the outer edge of the cross-sectioned |kidney|. It is composed of ~blood~ vessels and ~urine~ tubes and is supported by a fibrous |matrix|.
